the
WEDDING GARTER TRADITION

We are all about the wedding garter, as that's how this business first began many years ago, but we understand all brides aren't familiar with the wedding garter tradition so we hope this helps!

First, what is a wedding garter?
Garters are a piece of bridal lingerie a bride wears as a novelty on her wedding day. Modern wedding garters are made with laces and other embelishments, and held in place by an elastic stretch. Garters are also worn for bridal boudoir photo shoots and often passed down as a wedding keepsake.

Ah, now I understand the backstory, can you please explain the difference in a wedding garter set, keepsake garter and a toss garter - aren't they all the same thing?
Well, I'm glad you asked and not quite.

As the garter tradition has evolved, so have garters. Today wedding garter set is as stated, a set of two garters, a keepsake garter, and a toss garter. The keepsake garter is typically more elaborate of the set and it is worn above the toss garter on the leg of your choice and is kept as a sweet wedding keepsake. The toss garter is worn just beneath the keepsake garter and is the garter that the groom tosses. The toss garter is usually a bit simpler in detail as shown above.

Sounds like a fun tradition, I'm in. How can I purchase a garter?
I'm glad you asked, we offer two options:

What is the wedding garter tradition?
The wedding garter tradition dates back many centuries, and is basically believed that having a piece of the bride's wedding day attire brings good luck for wedding guests, so the newlyweds will offer a small token, the garter, to their guests to appease them.

The origin dates back to the Middle Ages when newlywed couples would perform a "bedding" ritual to prove they had consummated the marriage. After the ceremony and reception, guests would follow to the newlywed's chamber to witness the bride's "deflowering". For privacy, the couple would throw a piece of the brides' outfit to appease nosy onlookers.

The wedding veil blusher is the addition of a second layer of tulle which traditionally covers the bride's face as she walks down the aisle, and is pulled back for the ceremony.

The blusher is the difference between a one-tier veil (no blusher), or a two-tier veil (veil with the blusher).

Big Rock Bridal blusher veils are cut at 30inches in length, which hits around the natural waistline.

Fingertip Length Veil

The fingertip length veil is a wedding veil cut around fingertip length. It is a perfect veil for someone who is petite or who may be looking for a shorter length veil.

Big Rock Bridal fingertip length veils are cut to 42 inches in length.

Waltz Length Veil

The waltz length veil is one of our favorite lengths. The veil hits just between your knee and ankle, which offers a gorgeous soft fade into the train of your wedding dress. You cannot go wrong with this length!

Big Rock Bridal waltz length veils are cut to 54 inches in length.

Chapel Length

The chapel length veil, also known as a floor length veil, hits around the end of your dress, depending on the train length of your wedding dress. It is also one of our favorite veil lengths as it offers a gorgeous backdrop, and allows the dress to take center stage.

Big Rock Bridal chapel length veils are cut to 90 inches in length.

Cathedral Length

The cathedral length veil is for the bride who loves a little extra in her style. The cathedral length typically ends 10-12 inches from the end of your dress, depending on the train length. This veil definitely makes a statement.

Big Rock Bridal cathedral length veils are cut 108 inches in length.
